SoundTrek 2012 features 11 venues in UpTown district

Downtown Toledo will be alive with the sound of music Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. for SoundTrek 2012 in the UpTown Arts & Entertainment District along the Adams Street Corridor. This year's event features 11 diverse venues, with more than 30 local live music acts representing genres from rock, pop, and hip-hop to country, blues, jazz, folk, ethnic, R&B, and more. SoundTrek wristbands are on sale at the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, 1838 Parkwood Ave. Wristbands are $10 advance, $15 night of ($5 single venue admission). The Art Tatum Jazz Society and the Grand Plaza Hotel present Jazz On the Maumee beginning Wednesday at the 444 N. Summit St. hotel's Aqua Lounge. Cool jazz will be played from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Admission is $15 for the general public and $10 for society members. A cash bar will be available along with free valet parking.


Join the Black Swamp Air Force for its annual Kite Flying Weekend. The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Maumee Bay State Park in parking lot No. 3. The BSAF is a group of kite fliers scattered throughout northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan. Founded in 1986, the group has more than 200 members. Participants can bring a kite or purchase one at the park.

Comedian Charlie Wiener will serve up laughs at Connxtion Comedy Club this weekend. Topics in the high-energy show include travel, politics, road rage, fatherhood, and marriage. Wiener has performed standup for more than 40 years. Tonight's show begins at 8 and tickets are $8. On Friday, tickets are $12 and shows begin at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday's shows begin at 8 and 10:30 p.m. and cost $15.
