Checks the actual governmental jurisdiction — not just the postal city — and independently identifies the mapped place to use for Blade dateline guidance.
No Lucas County place is used as a dateline, including a place that is only partly in Lucas County. Rossford, Northwood, and Perrysburg also take no dateline. For township and rural locations, the postal city is ignored for dateline selection. The app independently compares the address point with mapped Ohio cities, villages, and unincorporated places. Distance remains the main factor, with a modest editorial preference for a nearby incorporated city or village rather than an automatic preference for either type of place. Known map-name variants are normalized (for example, Oak Shade → Oakshade). Township/rural results remain Suggested because editorial judgment may still be appropriate.
Published-use prototype: This build begins incorporating verified Toledo Blade story-opening datelines. The dictionary is intentionally conservative and will improve as more published stories are analyzed.
Lucas County uses the Lucas County Auditor/EMA jurisdiction layer. Other Ohio locations use the official statewide Ohio municipal and township boundary layers. Michigan uses the statewide city/township minor-civil-division layer. This browser version uses JSONP because the U.S. Census geocoder does not permit ordinary browser CORS requests.
