Mich. jobless rate rises 
for 3rd month in a row

LANSING — Michigan’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose two-tenths of a percentage point to 9 percent in August — the third straight month the jobless rate increased. A year earlier, the rate was 9.3 percent.

The state said the labor force was little changed in August, with total employment dropping by 7,000 and the number of unemployed rising by 7,000.

The U.S. rate was 7.3 percent in August. Ohio’s rate will be announced Friday.
