Bankruptcy cases fall 5% locally in October

Cases filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo decreased by 5 percent in October over the same month a year ago, according to the latest statistics from the Toledo court, which covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

In October there were 499 cases filed, compared to 526 filed in October, 2012. Filings were flat in September.

For the year, overall cases filed total 4,551, a decrease of 8 percent over the same period a year ago. Chapter 7 liquidation cases filed over the first 10 months totaled 4,149, a decrease of 8 percent from a year ago.
