Bankruptcy filings in Toledo fall 23% from ’13

The number of cases filed in January in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo fell 23 percent compared to the same month a year ago, according to statistics provided by the bankruptcy court’s clerk of courts office.

There were 257 cases filed last month, compared to 333 cases in January, 2013, in the Toledo court, which covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

There were 292 cases filed in December. Of the 257 cases filed in January, 222 were Chapter 7 liquidation cases while 35 were Chapter 13 repayment cases.
