Toledo glassmaker Libbey Inc. reported disappointing first-quarter results today, sending shares of the company's stock down by as much as 9 percent in early trading.
Libbey reported a loss of $3.3 million, or 16 cents per share, for the first quarter. The company said higher production costs and lower sales because of harsh winter weather early in the year effected its performance for the quarter. Last year, Libbey had a profit of $2 million, or 9 cents per share, in the first quarter.
As of 10:30 a.m., shares were trading at $24.92, down about 6.5 percent.
