Monroe County jobless figure rises 1.3% in May

LANSING — The seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for the Monroe area was 8.2 percent in May, up from 7.4 percent in April.

Michigan officials say the influx of seasonal workers into the job market drove the statewide unadjusted rate up 1.3 percentage points to 8.6 percent in May. The seasonally adjusted rate announced last week was 7.5 percent.
