4 more Michigan cities get Uber ridesharing

LANSING, Mich. — A California company that uses mobile application software to link people needing transportation in Ann Arbor and the Detroit area to drivers is expanding to several other Michigan cities.

San Francisco-based Uber says service starts today in Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Lansing.

Uber use smartphone apps to dispatch drivers who use their own personal vehicles to give people rides. The drivers then share the fares they collect with the company.

The company’s Michigan promotion includes free rides for passengers in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo and Flint.

Uber says it operates in 140 cities in 40 countries.
