A company that distributes parts for Chrysler Group LLC in Toledo has been fined $52,500 by federal workplace safety regulators.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Thursday that Exel Inc. continued to use a defective forklift and left others in unsafe condition at its Toledo parts warehouse and distribution center on Matzinger Road. The agency investigated Exel after complaints about a forklift incident at the facility earlier this year.

No one was injured in that incident, which was not detailed. However, OSHA also cited Exel for not giving the employee involved in the incident a safety refresher course. The company was cited for the same violation last year at company facility in Shelby, Ohio.

Exel, of Westerville, Ohio, sequences parts for Chrysler’s Toledo Assembly Complex that builds Jeeps. It employs 278 workers at the Toledo facility.
