Cedar Fair to call self entertainment company

SANDUSKY - It has doubled in size, added indoor and outdoor water parks, and operates hotels, restaurants, and a marina. Because of that and more, Cedar Fair LP said yesterday that it plans to call itself Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. from now on.

The company, in Sandusky, will remain Cedar Fair LP legally. But Stacy Frole, head of investor relations, said all future business will be conducted using the new moniker, which was first suggested at a board meeting after the $1.24 billion acquisition of Paramount Parks Inc. last June. It owns 12 parks.

The Cedar Fair name dates to 1978 when the company owned just two parks, Cedar Point and Valleyfair. The company will discuss the name change at a conference call with industry analysts set for Nov. 1, Ms. Frole said. "Cedar Fair LP doesn't really describe what we are anymore," she said. "We're more than just amusement parks. We're also live shows, Halloweekends, restaurants, hotels, promotions, and water parks."
