Monclova Township: Officials want to slow drivers on Coder Road

11/2/2005

Monclova Township officials want drivers to slow down on Coder Road. After a fatal accident on the road in August in which speed was a factor, the Lucas County Engineer's office studied speeding along the road.

Administrator Harold Grim called the results somewhat startling.

In a 48-hour period, 32 cars were recorded going at least 70 mph in the 35-mph zone, Mr. Grim said.

The township trustees are considering installing one or two driver feedback signs, which use radar to detect a car's speed and display it, on Coder Road.

Trustees do not have an estimate of the cost. A representative from 3M in Dublin, Ohio, said there is no charge if the signs are not effective enough at reducing speeding, Mr. Grim said.
