An 18-year-old Toledo man has been charged with felonious assault in connection with a shooting Saturday at Robinson Middle School park.

Charged is Benjamin Besteder, of 523 Cadillac Ct., in the Old West End. He was arrested about 9 p.m. Saturday and is being held in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment Tuesday.

The shooting occurred about 3:15 p.m. at Forest and Grand avenues in Central Toledo, which is the location of Robinson Park.

Lucas County Emergency Medical Services Life Squad took an injured shooting victim identified by police as Ernest Reed to Toledo Hospital. Toledo Hospital said they had no information on Mr. Reed.

According to Toledo Municipal Court records, Mr. Besteder on Dec. 31, 2012, was on probation from a conviction for an assault that took place at Scott High School and which stemmed from a gang-related murder.

Mr. Besteder pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault after being charged with punching another student in the face on the second floor of Scott High School on Oct. 26.

The police report in that incident said that the fight was about a murder that occurred the preceding weekend and which was believed to be gang-related.
