What is now the Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning and Owens-Illinois started in 1984 as the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. The former Glengarry Country Club (now Stone Oak Country Club) in Holland hosted four of the tournaments, in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988. There was no LPGA event here in 1986, because the Inverness Club hosted the PGA that summer. Jamie Farr, a Toledo-born actor best known for his portrayal of Corporal Klinger in the hit television series M*A*S*H, is shown signing autographs in this photo by Toledo Blade photographer Herral Long during the July 2-5, 1987, tournament. The event moved to Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania in 1989. For almost three decades, Jamie Farr loaned more than his name to the tournament. He played in pro-am outings and other celebrity events. He attended each day. He saluted every champion and was on hand at the 18th green to thank each participant. He signed hundreds of autographs, shook hands with volunteers, and welcomed fans.
