Though nationally the population of Red-Headed Woodpeckers are declining, the numbers at Oak Openings appear to be holding steady. The research team from the University of Toledo is aiming to find out why. They're hoping to better understand the birds' behavior by tagging 20 individuals with GPS units to track their potential migration, mating patterns and other habits.
