5 neighborhood groups share $280K in grants

The Toledo program of the Local Initiatives Support Corp. - known as LISC - has awarded $280,000 in grants to help five groups provide services to neighborhoods.

The money comes from the Section 4 program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which sends money to such intermediaries as LISC to support community development.

The grants were awarded to:

  • Neighborhoods in Partnership, which will use $70,000 to further the inclusion of Toledo Olde Towne Community Organization; to create a five-year strategic plan with an emphasis on the TOTCO neighborhood, and to enhance staffing to put the plan in force.

  • Ottawa Community Development and Toledo Central City Neighborhoods, which together will use $60,000 to further economic development and to develop housing initiatives.

  • Neighborhood Housing Services, which will use $60,000 to help Viva South Toledo community development corporation in such areas as developing housing, improving hardware and financial systems, and training staff.

  • Lagrange Development Corp. and NorthRiver Development Corp., which will use $50,000 for a networked telecommunications and computer system so that they can initiate projects, improve communications with residents, and develop a housing strategy in North Toledo.

  • River East Economic Revitalization and Housing East, which will use $40,000 to prepare a targeted housing development plan and for staffing to put the plan in force.
