5 neighborhood groups share $280K in grants

The Toledo program of the Local Initiatives Support Corp. - known as LISC - has awarded $280,000 in grants to help five groups provide services to neighborhoods.
The money comes from the Section 4 program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which sends money to such intermediaries as LISC to support community development.
The grants were awarded to:
Neighborhoods in Partnership, which will use $70,000 to further the inclusion of Toledo Olde Towne Community Organization; to create a five-year strategic plan with an emphasis on the TOTCO neighborhood, and to enhance staffing to put the plan in force. Ottawa Community Development and Toledo Central City Neighborhoods, which together will use $60,000 to further economic development and to develop housing initiatives. Neighborhood Housing Services, which will use $60,000 to help Viva South Toledo community development corporation in such areas as developing housing, improving hardware and financial systems, and training staff. Lagrange Development Corp. and NorthRiver Development Corp., which will use $50,000 for a networked telecommunications and computer system so that they can initiate projects, improve communications with residents, and develop a housing strategy in North Toledo. River East Economic Revitalization and Housing East, which will use $40,000 to prepare a targeted housing development plan and for staffing to put the plan in force.
