Effort to aid with floods in Toledo basements may grow

7/24/2008

Toledo City Council next week will consider pumping $100,000 into its basement-flooding grant program, which helps property owners to buy and install items to prevent basement flooding caused by sanitary-sewer backups.

Grants provide for check valves, stand pipes, sump pumps, and other measures.

The city will fund the cost up to a maximum of $2,000 per property but accepts no liability for damages resulting from work funded under the program.

Since the program s inception in 2004, the city has awarded 115 grants totaling $170,000.
