BLOOMDALE, Ohio - Plans to expand the Green Dairy LLC megafarm that's under construction in southern Wood County's Portage Township will be discussed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture today at Elmwood School, 7650 Jerry City Rd. in Portage Township.

Storage ponds for manure will be expanded and redesigned to allow for treatment and additional storage of the waste if the permit change is approved for the dairy, located at 11607 Bloomdale Rd. near Wayne.

The event begins with an open house at 6 p.m., followed by a public hearing from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

A citizens group, Wood County Citizens Opposed to Factory Farms, claims there is not enough land to spread the manure and that the buffer between the ponds and the aquifer is insufficient.

Comments are being taken through Dec. 18 by the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Livestock and Environmental Permitting Program, 8995 East Main St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio, 43068.
