Toledo-area region bumped from Homeland Security funding
5/19/2011A multi-county region — including Lucas County — is no longer eligible for a Homeland Security grant that helped local law enforcement agencies last year.
The Department of Homeland Security notified more than 30 cities across the nation Thursday that they will no longer be eligible for the anti-terror funds.
The area’s multi-county region has been bumped from the list of eligible cities several times in the past several years.
Columbus was also bumped from the list. Cleveland and Cincinnati are still eligible.
The security initiative grants have been cut by about $170 million as part of a larger cut that eliminated more than $780 million in grant money from the latest federal budget.
Only 31 high-threat urban areas — including New York and Washington — are still eligible for the grants this year.
