Law’s ‘Lights for Lives’ holiday effort stops 2,086

A law enforcement operation called “Lights for Lives” that started Tuesday at 6 a.m. and ran until 6 a.m Thanksgiving day, in which officers focused on seat belt use, distracted drivers, and impaired drivers, resulted in 2,086 vehicle stops and 921 citations.

The effort included the Ohio Highway Patrol and nearly 30 law enforcement agencies in northwest Ohio from Williams, Fulton, Lucas, Defiance, Henry, Wood, Putnam, Paulding, Hancock, Van Wert, Allen, and Hardin counties.

There were 108 safety belt citations issued and 43 impaired drivers were stopped. There were 10 felony and 64 misdemeanor criminal arrests, as well as 15 drug-related arrests. Of the citations, 488 were for speed. The agencies reported 72 property damage crashes and 18 injury crashes. There was one fatal crash during the time period in Van Wert County.
