River expected to fall below flood stage today

STRYKER, Ohio — The Tiffin River, last of the northwest Ohio rivers to be above flood stage after heavy rain last weekend, was expected to retreat to its banks early today.

The National Weather Service office in North Webster, Ind., maintained a flood warning for the Tiffin in Fulton, Williams, and Defiance counties on Thursday, but said only minor flooding was expected before its drop below flood stage, expected about 1 a.m. today.

Heavy rain Saturday, combined with melting snow from a week before, sent numerous area rivers over their banks earlier this week. Major flooding occurred on the Blanchard River in Findlay and Ottawa, Ohio, and low-lying highways across northwest Ohio were closed because of high water.

The Ohio Department of Transportation announced the end of its last flood-related road closings, involving State Rts. 105 and 19 in Sandusky and Ottawa counties, early Thursday.
