Trooper from B.G. post contends for state honor

BOWLING GREEN — A local Ohio Highway Patrol trooper was named District Trooper of the Year and is in contention for recognition at the state level.

Trooper Evan Slates, 28, of the patrol’s Bowling Green post, and seven others are up for State Trooper of the Year.

Trooper Slates joined the Highway Patrol in 2011 and has worked at the Bowling Green post since then.

A Bowling Green native, he served in the Marine Corps from 2004-08 and lives in Wood County.

Trooper Ladonna Klocinski was named Trooper of the Year at the Swanton Post.

Trooper Klocinski, 38, joined the Highway Patrol in 1997 and has worked at the Swanton post since 2011.

The Swanton High School graduate served in the Ohio Air National Guard 180th Fighter Wing from 1996 to 2001. She lives in Whitehouse.

Earlier, the Findlay post recognized Philip Mohre, the Fremont post recognized Garry M. Odom, and the Sandusky post chose John F. McGlashan.
