Toledo man will serve 3 years for robbery try

A Toledo man who tried to rob a 71-year-old woman as she was leaving church was sentenced Friday to three years in prison.

Arvell Harris, 18, of 1331 Page St. pleaded no contest and was found guilty of robbery Nov. 19 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the Aug. 16 incident outside New Covenant Church, 2519 Stickney Ave.

Before sentencing Harris, Judge James Bates said Harris had thrown the woman to the ground and tried to grab her purse. “She wouldn’t give up her purse because her Bible was inside,” the judge told Harris.
