Kelleys Island is among 15 communities vying for votes on budgettravel.com to become Coolest Small Town in America for 2014.

Nominees for the title are a diverse lot, from the Lake Erie vacation spot to Huntington Woods, Mich., a residential suburb north of Detroit; from Deadwood, S.D., to Pahoa, Hawaii.

Kelleys Island has the smallest permanent population, with 313 people, according to the Web site. The next is Everglades City, Fla., with 403.

Voting continues on the travel Web site through Feb. 25.

Last year, Put-in-Bay finished at No. 6. Lititz, Pa., in rural Lancaster County, was voted the coolest small town for 2013.
