Winter advisory issued for Northwest Ohio
2/16/2014Predictions of snow and ice prompted the National Weather Service today to issue a winter weather advisory for some northwest Ohio counties, including Fulton, Defiance, Williams, and Henry, and in Hillsdale County in southeastern Michigan.
At times, snowfall could be heavy, with accumulations of three to five inches; reduced visibility to one-quarter mile or less, plus possible periods of light freezing drizzle will combine to create hazardous weather conditions, according to the advisory, in effect from 1 p.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Travel will likely be difficult as roads become packed with snow and ice, according to the weather service.
Low pressure will track rapidly northeast from the southern Plains Monday morning to portions of Ohio by Monday evening. Snow will rapidly overspread the region midday through the afternoon hours
In other counties, including Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, Hancock, Huron, and Seneca, a hazardous weather outlook is in effect for Monday with the chance of three to five inches of snow, but with the uncertainty in the track of the system no weather advisory has yet been issued.
A warming trend is anticipated later in the week with temperatures possibly springing above 50 degrees Thursday.
Rain combined with snow melt could produce flooding Thursday into Friday. If heavy rain occurs, significant flooding would be possible, according to the weather service.
Ice jam flooding is possible as well in some areas, such as mouths of rivers emptying into Lake Erie. Ice would likely back up on the rivers because of ice cover on the lake.
