The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Maumee River near Waterville and Grand Rapids, Ohio, because of ice jamming indicated by river gauges.

Just before noon, the agency's Cleveland office said, gauges below Grand Rapids and Waterville showed rapid rises indicative of a developing ice jam or jams. The Waterville area is particularly at risk, according to the warning, which is effective until 10 p.m.

The agency urged motorists and residents to be alert for water backing up onto surrounding land. The river also could rise farther downstream if the jamming breaks up.
