Lane closings will continue “until further notice” on northbound I-75 near the I-475 junction in central Toledo because of ongoing pothole problems, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced late Saturday.

Traffic on the freeway’s northbound lanes was reduced to one lane at I-475 for hours on Saturday, while the eastbound I-475 ramp to northbound I-75 was closed for most of the afternoon, while crews worked on a pothole in the center lane of a bridge over the Ottawa River.

ODOT urged through traffic to use state Rt. 795 and I-280 to avoid the area.

I-75 near I-475 was one of several areas where state crews battled potholes Saturday in hopes of repairing as much pavement as possible with hot asphalt mix before a new round of sustained, subfreezing cold moves into northwest Ohio. Traffic also was sluggish on I-475/U.S. 23 in Toledo’s western suburbs Saturday because of repair work.

The National Weather Service’s forecast for Toledo indicated Saturday would be the last day with a high temperature above freezing for a while.

After highs in the 20s today through Tuesday, the agency forecast highs only in the teens later this week as a new blast of Arctic air moves into the lower Great Lakes.
