A Toledo man convicted of raping a young girl was sentenced Wednesday to eight years in prison.

Jordan Byrd, 22, of 2757 Tremainsville Rd., was classified by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda as a child sex offender who must register his address with the sheriff where he resides, works, or goes to school for the rest of his life.

Byrd sexually assaulted a girl between the ages of 6 and 8 on more than one occasion between September, 2009, and November, 2011.

Judge Zmuda gave Byrd credit for nearly two years he had spent in jail in the case, which was delayed after the judge removed Byrd’s original lawyer from the case for improprieties and that ruling was appealed to Ohio’s 6th District Court of Appeals, where it was upheld.
