BOWLING GREEN — The city’s semiannual large-item refuse collection is scheduled to start Monday morning, officials said.

The special pickup allows residents to dispose of items that are too heavy or large or odd-sized for their weekly refuse-collection containers.

Officials asked that all items be placed curbside after 5 p.m. Sunday and no later than 7 a.m. Monday.

City crews will make one sweep of the city. While that could take more than one day, public works director Brian Craft said, people should be sure to have their items out by early Monday so they don’t get skipped.

“If it’s not out, we’re moving on,” Mr. Craft said.

Mattresses and box springs will only be collected for an additional fee, which must be paid first at the public works office, 304 N. Church St.

Material will be collected from one and two-family dwellings on public streets only. Crews will not collect refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, construction and demolition material, sod, or rocks. Those items are accepted, for a fee, at the Wood County landfill.
