The city of Sylvania will begin its yard waste pickup program on April 7 for residents on the schedule A collection and April 14 for those on the schedule B collection cycle.

The city will collect brush, leaves, grass clippings, and other green waste. The schedule is according to the city’s 2014 refuse pickup schedule found online at cityofsylvania.com.

Residents are required to purchase an official green yard waste bag in order to dispose of the brush or leaves. The bags are available at the Utilities Office, 6730 Monroe St. or the Parks & Forestry Division office, 8425 Sylvania-Metamora Rd.

In addition, the city will provide a one-time free curbside yard waste pickup starting April 21 for schedule A, and April 28 for homes on schedule B. Residents are not required to buy and use an official disposal bag. Green waste may be placed in a garbage can or other suitable container with the lid off. Paper grocery bags and cardboard boxes can also be used for the free green waste collection. Officials said branches should be bundled and tied with twine. Branches should be cut into four-foot lengths, not to exceed 18 inches in diameter, and bundled with string. Bags, containers, or bundles cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each. No plastic bags will be accepted.
