Noncommand Lucas County sheriff’s employees today voted in favor of an “economic reopener” settlement that would provide for their first raises in six years.

The agreement, which must be approved by the county commissioners, passed by 263 votes in favor to 11 against, said Pat Mangold, president of United Auto Workers Local 3056, which represents 418 deputies, corrections officers, dispatchers, clerks, and sanitation employees.

The 3 percent raise is retroactive to Jan. 1, Mr. Mangold said. The last raise was in January, 2008, he said.

The union’s complete contract with the sheriff’s office expires Dec. 31, with new negotiations planned for the fall.
