The University off Toledo Board of Trustees today voted unanimously to ban all smoking on UT's main campus.

The university implemented a policy in 2011 that limited smoking and tobacco use to designated areas and in personal vehicles. UT’s Health Science Campus, the former Medical College of Ohio, went smoke-free in 2008.

During recent and sometimes heated discussions at UT about whether to make the change, some on campus had argued that the recent policy, which restricted, but did not ban, smoking on campus, was poorly enforced. They also believed a full ban would be harder to implement.
