A gas-line break Thursday afternoon in Point Place shut down the I-75 ramps at Ottawa River Road for several hours.

A “third party” crew broke the 10-inch medium-pressure line at Ottawa River and Suder Avenue, said Chris Kozak, a Columbia Gas spokesman. The break, in an area where a city contractor is rebuilding Suder, was reported to Columbia Gas at 3:32 p.m.

Fire officials reported that two filling stations — a Sunoco and a BP — near the broken line were briefly evacuated and that notifications of a possible evacuation were made to residents of the River Bend Apartment Complex on Suder.

Columbia Gas crews temporarily shut off gas to the line in order to assess damage and make repairs.

Mr. Kozak said he was unaware of any evacuations. No customers were believed to be without service.
