Two Toledo men who assaulted a 70-year-old man with a pool cue were sentenced Thursday by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros.

Mario Torres, 52, of 3735 Terrace Dr. was ordered to serve six months at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio followed by six months on electronic monitoring. Judge Mandros also placed him on community control for four years, ordered him to complete anger-management classes, and have no contact with the victim, Alexander Ochoa, Jr.

John Pina, Jr., 48, of 5028 Prestler Rd., was placed on community control and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. Both men were told to stay out of bars and consume no alcohol or drugs during their probationary period.

Torres, who pleaded guilty to attempted felonious assault, and Mr. Pina, who pleaded guilty to inciting violence, were shooting pool with Mr. Ochoa at an East Toledo bar Feb. 7 when an argument broke out and Mr. Ochoa was struck on the head several times with a cue.

A restitution hearing to determine how much the men owe for Mr. Ochoa’s medical bills will be held July 22.
