A Toledo man and his girlfriend were indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Thursday for allegedly assaulting a police officer who attempted to arrest him.

James Miller, 27, and Kayla Braithwaite, 24, both of 2915 Glanzman Rd., were indicted for felonious assault, while Mr. Miller also was indicted for assault.

According to Toledo police, an off-duty officer, Gregory Wallace, approached Mr. Miller at Sunoco, 4711 S. Detroit Ave., because he knew Mr. Miller had an active warrant for his arrest. Mr. Miller allegedly jumped in the back of Ms. Braithwaite’s vehicle, and, when the officer attempted to get the keys, she punched him in the face and drove off, nearly striking another officer and dragging Officer Wallace a short distance.
