Suspect in fatal robbery indicted by grand jury

A Toledo man charged with shooting and robbing the owner of a local auto sales business earlier this month was indicted Friday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Terry Hayes, 48, of 3137 Lagrange St. was indicted for aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, both with firearm specifications, for the July 8 shooting death of Ricky Layson, 35.

Police said a robber walked into R&D Auto Sales, 5010 Lewis Ave., at 11:25 a.m., got into a verbal confrontation with Mr. Layson, and then fired at least twice, shooting Mr. Layson in the torso. The robber fled with a soft-sided computer case, police said.

Hayes was held Friday in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $2 million bond.
