The former acting secretary for Laborers Local 500 was sentenced to probation Friday for illegally collecting unemployment while she was working.

Patricia Bey-Palmer, 43, of 2731 Glendale Ave. was placed on five years of community control by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks. A six-month jail sentence was stayed pending successful completion of probation.

Judge Franks also ordered Bey-Palmer to pay $9,877.50 in restitution to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Bey-Palmer was removed from a union ballot in 2010 after it was learned she had been convicted in 2004 in Cuyahoga County of forgery, uttering, theft, and receiving stolen property.

She collected unemployment benefits between June and November in 2013 while she was working for Miller Pipeline.
