  • TEMPERANCE — The Bedford Township Board of Trustees voted 5-1 Thursday night to appoint former Township Supervisor Lamar Frederick to fill a vacant trustee seat.

Mr. Frederick's seat will be up for re-election in 2018. The position was vacated last month by Michelle Bork, who recently moved to Sylvania after the unexpected death of her husband.

“I want to thank my new colleagues for their support,” Mr. Frederick said. “I look forward to working with each and every one of you. We may disagree at times, but that's part of it.”

Mr. Frederick touched on several topics during his interview with the township board Thursday night, including his desire to improve economic development without infringing upon residential areas.

The township received 14 applications for the vacancy. Each board member selected their top three candidates. From that pool, the four most popular choices interviewed. Jim Nyhan, Dennis Jenkins, and Linda Rohr were also interviewed.

Heath Velliquette was among the top five, but withdrew his name from consideration.

Township trustees are paid between $12,000 and $14,000 annually. They receive $50 for each committee meeting they attend.
