Genoa to honor vets at homecoming

GENOA - Military personnel will be honored at the 2010 Genoa Homecoming next month, and most funds raised will go toward Honor Flight Northwest Ohio charter trips for veterans to visit Washington war memorials.

Proceeds from a raffle at 10 p.m. June 5 will go toward Honor Flight. The hope is to send three veterans on Honor Flight trips, said Sharon McCullough, media coordinator.

Genoa Homecoming festivities start at

6:30 p.m. June 4 with a parade through downtown ending at the Town Hall. The Genoa High School Band will play after the parade, and a reception will honor military families at Town Hall.

A fireworks show will begin at dusk June 4 at Veterans Memorial Park.

There also will be bingo and other activities, including amusement rides starting at 4 p.m.

On June 5, a 5K run will be held, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. The 5K's fee is $16 through this Friday before it jumps to $20. For more information, call 419-705-5949.

Also on June 5, a street fair with crafts and vendors will be on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; an art show will be on the Town Hall lawn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and a classic car show will be on Main Street from 5 to 8 p.m.

There will be music and other entertainment throughout the day, including a dance from 8 to 11 p.m.

Pie-baking contestants can drop off entries at 10:30

a.m. June 5 in front of Sprouse Agency Inc., 601 Main St. After pies are judged from noon to 1 p.m. the entries will be for sale.
