Pastors plead not guilty to sex trafficking

Two Toledo pastors pleaded not guilty today to federal charges accusing them of sex trafficking a teenage girl.

The Rev. Cordell Jenkins, 46, and the Rev. Anthony Haynes, 38, appeared in U.S. District Court for a brief arraignment hearing. When asked, both men told Magistrate Judge James Knepp they understood the charges filed against them.

A grand jury Wednesday handed up a series of charges against Mr. Jenkins of the 2400 block of Barrington and Mr. Haynes of the 4900 block of Ventura Drive.

Mr. Jenkins is charged with two counts of sex trafficking of a minor and one count each of production of child pornography and receipt of child pornography.

Mr. Haynes was indicted on two counts of sex trafficking of a minor and one count each of production of child pornography and obstruction of a sex trafficking investigation.

They each face the possibility of life in prison if convicted.

Mr. Jenkins is also accused of paying to have sex with the teenager at his home, his church, and a local motel.

Both defendants remained held without bond in the Lucas County jail.

Mr. Jenkins is founder and pastor of Abundant Life Ministries and the husband of Lucas County Administrator Laura Lloyd-Jenkins. Mr. Haynes led the Greater Life Christian Center

Supporters of Mr. Haynes attended the hearing. They declined comment afterward.
