NAPOLEON, Ohio — Deshler, Ohio, police Chief Ryan Bowersox has been indicted by a Henry County grand jury on charges he illegally accessed a statewide law enforcement database.

Chief Bowersox was indicted on three counts of unauthorized use of the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway, all fifth-degree felonies.

Henry County Prosecutor Gwen Howe-Gebers said the chief was placed on administrative leave Thursday after search warrants were executed at his home in nearby Hamler, Ohio, and at the Deshler police department.

The warrants were seeking stolen guns, steroids, and other related evidence, she said.

Ms. Howe-Gebers declined to say what was found, saying the investigation was ongoing.
