Maumee apartment manager gets prison time for stealing rent payments

The former manager of a Maumee apartment complex convicted of stealing some $72,000 from her employer was sentenced Tuesday to 17 months in prison, which she is to serve on top of a four-year sentence she received for a similar crime in Wood County.

Amanda Diehl, 38, of Waterville pleaded guilty May 7 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to grand theft for stealing from Noneman Real Estate. Prosecutors said Diehl altered rental applications and leases to skim money from rents paid at Lakeside at Fallen Timbers between Nov. 25, 2016, and Aug. 11, 2017.

Judge Dean Mandros also ordered her to pay $1,000 in restitution, which represented the deductible Noneman paid to its insurance carrier, which covered the loss.

Separately, Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matthew Reger recently sentenced Diehl, who also is known as Amanda Ter Doest, to four years in prison. She had pleaded guilty in 2012 to two counts of grand theft and one count of theft for stealing from a former employer, Snook's Dream Cars in Bowling Green.

The court initially placed her on community control for five years with conditions that included serving 60 days in the work release program and paying $99,395 in restitution, but Judge Reger sent her to prison May 18 after she repeatedly violated the terms of her community control.
