Toledoan pleads to sex offense

A South Toledo man pleaded no contest Monday to gross sexual imposition for having unwanted sexual contact with an 18-year-old woman at his home.

Tommy L. Hughart, 58, of the 500 block of Shea Street, was then found guilty by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda. Hughart, who is being held in the Lucas County jail, faces up to 18 months in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 20.

Mark Herr, an assistant county prosecutor, said both the victim of the May 23 offense and the investigating officer had been consulted about the plea agreement, which calls for a more serious charge of sexual battery to be dismissed.

Hughart initially was charged with rape but when the case was presented to a Lucas County grand jury, he was indicted for sexual battery and gross sexual imposition.
