A former Ottawa River Elementary principal was sentenced to a treatment facility Tuesday because she violated terms of her community control by failing drug tests.

Michelle Wooley, 48, took students’ yearbook money, picture money, and money they had raised for the school — in all about $35,000 between 2014 and 2016.

Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Myron Duhart previously told Wooley that if she violated the terms a community control sentence stemming from that incident, she could face up to three years in prison.

Her attorney, Joseph Solomon, told the judge his client is struggling with drug addiction while working to help her elderly parents.

“You’ve got to get yourself together first before you can help anybody,” Judge Duhart told Wooley.

He sentenced her to six months at the Correctional Treatment Facility. She must comply with additional terms, and she may be a candidate for the county’s drug court program.
