  • A South Toledo woman was found guilty Wednesday of several charges stemming from her attack on several of her neighbors and a Toledo police officer.

Victoria Brownfield, 31, of the 2500 block of Moffat Road, pleaded no contest — not admitting guilt — in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony, and two counts of assault, both first-degree misdemeanors. She faces a maximum of 18 months in prison and a $7,000 fine.

On June 20, Brownfield was apparently trying to get into her apartment after she locked herself out, according to court records. One of her neighbors, James Meredith, gave her a screwdriver to help her get into her apartment and she responded by attacking him and several others, including Mikyla Keck and Shawn Brummett.

She was accused of scratching, smacking, and pushing Mr. Meredith and Mr. Brummett, according to court documents. Brownfield was also accused of grabbing Ms. Keck by the hair, pulling her shirt, and choking her, court documents show.

When Toledo police responded to a report of disorder at the location, Officer Nicole Crissman found Brownfield in a common hall where people were trying to restrain her, court records show.

Brownfield knocked the officer down, climbed on top of her, and struck her with closed fists in the chest, court documents show. Brownfield began to choke the officer and then grabbed her by the hair and smashed her head into the ground. Officer Crissman eventually restrained Brownfield with the help of Mr. Meredith and others at the apartment complex.

Other than having minor scrapes, Officer Crissman was not injured, police reported. Both Mr. Meredith and Ms. Keck were evaluated at the scene by the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department. Mr. Brummett was not injured.

Brownfield’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 14.
