Anthony Wayne board rehires 3 retired teachers

8/5/2004

The Anthony Wayne Board of Education yesterday voted to rehire three teachers who retired from the district at the end of last school year.

All three teachers will resume the same jobs they retired from in the fall, but they will be able to collect part of their pensions and the school district will pay them lower salaries than they received before retiring.

The board gave two-year contracts to James Berta, a high school English teacher; Darla Nolder, a fifth-grade teacher at Fallen Timbers Middle School, and Jerry Reed, a high school guidance counselor.

Both Mr. Berta and Ms. Nolder will receive an annual salary of $40,897. They were paid about $67,740 before retirement. Mr. Reed will be paid $45,342 each year, as compared to his $73,307 annual salary before retirement.
