BOWLING GREEN State and local officials announced plans Thursday to seek $2 million in state capital dollars to build a research and training center focused on environmental health.

The facility would be built as an addition to the Wood County Health Department with Bowling Green State University as a partner. It would include laboratory space for water quality testing and monitoring and a large high-tech classroom for training and meetings.

State Rep. Randy Gardner (R., Bowling Green) and State Sen. Mark Wagoner (R., Ottawa Hills) both pledged their support for the project at a news conference at the Wood County Courthouse. The project will be proposed as part of the state s capital budget that is expected to be introduced by mid-May and passed by June 30.

We expect though we can t promise that Wood County will receive $2 million in state funds to make this project go forward, Mr. Gardner said.
