A man who was reportedly trying to “defend his sister” was pepper sprayed and then shot in his left heel early Sunday morning, Toledo police said.

Mark Bollinger, 24, was shot outside of his residence in the 600 block of Leonard Street, at about 4:55 a.m., according to a Toledo police report.

Mr. Bollinger told police that the suspects, who are not named in the report, threatened to beat up his sister and another person.

The suspects said to the witnesses, “What are you looking at? Why don’t you come down and say that to my face?” and then said, again to the witnesses and victim, that they were going to become physically violent with them.

The police report states the suspects pepper sprayed the victim in the face and said, “What you think about this? We own this neighborhood,” according to the police report.

The victim was reportedly shot at as he tried to walk away, the report states.

The suspects are described as white men, both about 18 to 20 years old. One was wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, the other was wearing a green shirt and green hat, according to a police report.

Mr. Bollinger was treated for his wound at Mercy St. Charles Hospital.
