Man killed in Williams Co. crash

PIONEER, Ohio — A 49-year-old Toledoan was killed in a single-vehicle crash today in Williams County’s Madison Township, about two miles east of the village of Pioneer, according to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The name of the driver is not being released, pending notification of next of kin. The Ohio Highway Patrol is attempting to locate a relative of the white male driver.

The vehicle, a Ford Windstar minivan, was eastbound on U.S. 20 about 8:50 a.m. and was being driven erratically, according to a crash witness. The vehicle went off the south side of U.S. 20, about a half-mile east of County Road 16, and then drove back into the eastbound lane. The vehicle appeared to then swerve back off the south side of the road, striking a utility pole on the left side of the vehicle. The roof of the minivan, which ended up on its left side, was cut off by emergency responders to get to the driver.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, the highway patrol said.
