Although the remains found in a North Toledo home this week have not yet been identified, the Lucas County Coroner's Office is closer to knowing who the individual was.

Deputy Coroner Dr. Cynthia Beisser said today that an anthropologist was able to determine that the remains are that of a black male, probably in his early 20s.

No other information, such as height, was known. A cause of death has not been determined.

Dr. Beisser said more about the individual could be known next week once dental records are inspected. If those records don't yield any positive results, the next step is to look for a DNA match.

The remains were found at 438 E. Streicher St. on Wednesday by an asbestos-removal crew that had been hired to clean out the property before it was to be demolished.

Toledo police are treating the case as a homicide, as they do all suspicious deaths.
