Crash after apparent medical emergency kills Defiance woman

DEFIANCE — A Defiance woman died in a car crash after an apparent medical emergency.

Officials pronounced an unresponsive Ouida Johnson, 63, dead Monday at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital, Defiance police said.

Ms. Johnson was driving southbound about 10:45 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of Jefferson Avenue. Her car left the road, struck several objects in a yard, and entered the northbound lane of Jefferson Avenue. Ms. Johnson struck a vehicle driven by Maria Rocha and then a tree, according to police.

Ms. Rocha, 45, and her passenger Stephanie Gomez-Ruiz, 18, both of Defiance were taken to Mercy Health Hospital of Defiance. They suffered minor injuries.
